Where does the time go??

Well, I havnt fallen off the face of the planet, yet anyway. I have been finding it hard to fit in working on maya bits inbewteen working all the hours I can get at my currnet job, (of which the season is ending soon)and looking for a new job, (even if its somthing to get me through the winter.)

The last project I was working vanished from my hard drive while I was on holiday and have not since recovered any scraps of it. Strange things have happened. However not to be disheartened, I have been working on yet another indoor environment to practice my modleing, setting and lighting skills. This project is not very far along but heres a preview.

There are still plenty pf issues to fix and objects to add. Its work in progress.

Abandoned Saloon

Over the last few weeks I have hand my hand in a few pies, with many things going on. I have spent many hours each week at my part time job trying to get some money together, (no more student financing to fall back on all year round. I have also been helping out a friend of the family create their website, a nice new little challenge to pass some time, as well as various other day to day events. Along side all of which I have been keeping a hand in working with Maya.

I want to spend somtine working on enviroment design projects, from reading many books in my spare time I have decided to create my impression of some scenes and locations. The image below is a work in progress of an abandoned saloon bar from the book The Host, by Stephenie Meyers.

Space

In the first year the 3rd project was about the use of space and learning simple animation through the process of anamorphosis. The original project worked well in terms of animation the illusion but the overall model and texturing abilities are of a low standard, acceptable for the first year then perhaps, but I have gone back and remodeled and textured the environment, with a few modifications to the animation.

The Improved Scene:

In the improved scene I have so far paid less attention to the anamorphosis stage and instead concentrated on the animation and texturing of the book itself. The animorphosis stage is my next priority.

Digital Environment

The first project I under took was recreating the digital enironment scene from the first year. With a better knowledge base of what I can do in Maya and a fuller understanding of producing an effective scene it was a good project to start with for making improvments.

The Original Scene:

This project was influenced the liveing pictures by Gregory Crewdson. This Image was surposed to provke a primale fear of the plant life taking over a modern, civilised, and very human setting.

The improved scene works better to provoke that desired mysterious effect with a more finalised location.
